I’d read about overtourism in Barcelona but seeing it at first hand still came as a shock: the entire centre is as crowded and soulless as Oxford Street. Luckily, I was only passing through, on my way to an area of Catalonia that is the opposite of busy. The Ebro delta in the far south, on the border with Valencia province is a serene flatland sandwiched between the sea and the mountains, full of aquatic birds in the big blue skies,and pink flamingos lazing in the marshes, and ancient rice paddies (pictured) for which the area is famous. I cycled around the Ebro Delta natural park on an electric bike – a fun experience first for me after a lifetime of proper cycling and, oh, what a fun!. We finished our tour at Kensho, only the second sake producer in Europe, which makes it – made with local rice. I tried it paired with a plate of fat delta oysters – a heavenly combination that our group demanded more of once the tasting had finished.
Dan, Ana and their staff are great! Their hospitality is out of this world. The room was perfect with a: bed, writing desk, closet and a lot of storage options. They provide an electric kettle in the room and good selection of hot beverages choices. There is a private washroom with: shower, toilet and sink. Your space is separate from the other parts of the house. Dan and Ana encourage interacting with their family and the use of shared spaces: kitchen, dining room and living room. The train from Barcelona is 9 minute drive to the house. Great place to stay when in holidays!
We just loved. Cycling to the beach before the sunset for a yoga session, delicious sea food, lazy siesta, massage looking the rice fields and early evening with good mates. I can't wait to come back to this paradise.
